What is Diabetes Australia-NSW Vitality Workplace Health?
Vitality Workplace Health is a program developed by Diabetes Australia-NSW to help organisations identify diabetes risk, prevent or delay type 2 diabetes, and improve diabetes management in the workplace. Diabetes Australia-NSW Vitality Workplace Health offers leading edge information delivered by expert health professionals across a number of different topics and activities to help employees achieve improved health and wellbeing and provides continued access to services offered by Diabetes Australia-NSW.
Why the workplace?
Diabetes is the fastest growing chronic disease in Australia and around the world. Current evidence indicates that one in four Australian adults has either diabetes or impaired glucose metabolism. Given the increasing prevalence of diabetes and the fact that 65 per cent of Australians (aged 15 years and over) are employed, the workplace is an ideal environment to deliver health messages to a large proportion of the population.
What is the evidence?
Workplace Health Programs: There is strong evidence of a number of very important benefits to the workplace including improved staff attendance, productivity and retention.
Lifestyle Change: Recent evidence indicates that programs encouraging lifestyle change can result in prevention or delay of type 2 diabetes. Lifestyle intervention studies have shown that the risk of type 2 diabetes can be reduced by 58 per cent in people who were previously at high risk.
How does it work?
Diabetes Australia-NSW Vitality Workplace Health offers a range of interactive activities on a number of topics which can be tailored to meet the needs of your organisation. Each one is delivered by accredited diabetes educators, dietitians, exercise physiologists and physiotherapists.
Testimonials "Thank you to the Vitality Workplace Health team for your time and contribution to the engineers’ health day... "Having a personal connection with diabetes and a staff member who has the condition I found that Diabetes Australia-NSW’s Vitality Workplace Health presentation was an eye opener. ... We are now looking at incorporating a better lifestyle through weekly fruit deliveries and a physical challenge that the whole team can be involved in." |
